Xbox treated us to a nice little surprise earlier today in the form of Generation Zero being added to Game Pass, which joins two other titles in Evil Genius 2: World Domination and Mind Scanners making their debuts on the service.

If you didn't know, Generation Zero is a stealth-action hybrid in which you can play alone or with up to three friends as you hide, seek, scavenge and shoot your way through a world of peril and secrets. The game originally received pretty poor reviews at launch, but over time has turned those around into a 'Mostly Positive' rating on Steam.

Today's Game Pass addition also arrives alongside a massive Resistance Update for Generation Zero, which released back in May for PC but is only now coming to Xbox. The highlight features are base building and new craftables, alongside other improvements such as "extensive revamps to the city region".

Better yet, Generation Zero now supports cross-play between Xbox and PC, and it's even added a 60fps option for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S players, allowing you to enjoy much smoother performance on the next-gen consoles.

"Sweden. 1989. When the residents of Östertörn wake to find robots on the rampage, winning becomes living. Alone or with up to three friends, sneak, scavenge and shoot your way to safety across a vast, varied landscape that is as intriguing as it is deadly."

Will you be checking out Generation Zero on Xbox Game Pass today? Let us know down in the comments.

Looking forward to diving back into this game with my son. The new additions sound pretty decent too...

Nice. Was interested in this game but the poor reviews kept me away. Sounds like it has improved enough just in time for GamePass!

@awp69 I was interested, as well, but the user reviews made it sound like the devs forgot about the game. What with the lack of content and updates. Hopefully, with it on gamepass, ms lit a fire under them, prior, to get it up to snuff.

Just wanted to boot it up and couldn't stop playing for 3 hours straight. Liking it a lot so far.

The cover to Generation Zero always makes me laugh. I always imagine the 2 rednecks talking to each other like Cleetus from The Simpsons.

"Hey Brandine, looky here at this funny walkin' tin can thing."

It's pretty kool and I like the way the mechs look. Its like State of Decay, but in that Metalhead Black Mirror episode with the robots.

Damn it I bought this and Aliens Fireteam lol…. At this rate it’s simply not worth buying anything, because it’ll end up on GamePass one day. Both are excellent games by the way. It’s scary trying to battle the first robot, and it has some jump moments in the game, but then you learn how to kill em and it becomes much easier. Also upgrade those weapons, one tip in Generation Zero is watch a video in how to get the tier 4 50 cal sniper rifle, I did and it was a God send in taking them down.

@PhhhCough Thats totally wrong, the devs are continuously updating it, they had a Halloween special, probably will have a Christmas special, they have just released the latest update for the Xbox version of the game so you can get experimental ammo and build bases. They haven’t forgotten about it at all.

@S1ayeR74 I stand corrected. Looking forward to jumping in, after work. Loaded it yesterday.

@PhhhCough The graphics aren't the best, been playing it on my series X and 4K OLED, but it's smooth enough and it's fun enough, things definitely go BOOM in this game! The story is alright, but predictable, but I haven't tired of killing endless machines yet lol!

@S1ayeR74 So...
My first experience with gen zero. I create a character, get stuck in the loading screen after the little story of crashing on the shore. Then an achievement pops up, "Fashionista - collect 200 items of apparel" ha!
Close game, restart.
My second experience, was much better. I went through about 5 "missions" got some weapons, an assault rifle, sniper rifle, shotgun, handgun. Looking for the residents, after the bomb shelter.
Thus far, not a bad game. It's fun.

@PhhhCough Awesome, be wary as the robots look slow but when they see you they CAN run fast, bar the harvester ones. And if you can’t beat them run away, later in just grab as many health packs as you can, and always check cars and robots for inventory to grab.
