Ooo, that sounds amazing! Do you know what else was in it? Or the flavor profile? We’d love to try creating something like that!

I guess it is sweet and salty. We used to get it Aldi and they seem to have discontinued it. We have been working on recreating it. Here is an effort:
2C beet juice ( about 2 large beets)
        1/4 C balsamic vinegar
        1 T lemon juice
        2 T orange juice
        1/4-1/2 tsp orange zest
        1 1/2 tsp dijon mustard
1/4 tsp dry hot mustard powder
        Onion salt
        Plain non dairy yogurt
        onion
We are still tweaking it. Jump in and let us know what you come up with.

Speaking of beets, a favorite salad of mine is beet salad.
It’s the only thing I use a canned vegetable for….but I guy whole beets and chop them up with scallions and red onions and celery. Mix it with plain nondairy yogurt, salt, pepper and horseradish. Best made a day early. Before I committed to a plant based diet I used sour cream, and I think it had roughly chopped eggs. I bet you could improve on this also.

I posted a beet salad dressing recipe we are working on at our house and I forgot to add the sweet to the sweet and salty. I use maple syrup a lot in cooking but it may be too flavorful and change the dressing too much.I just don’t remember if I liked it in the dressing. Stevia or Swerve may be a better choice.

FAQs

Why do I love beets? ›

Beets are a fantastic source of the chemical betaine anhydrous and the amino acid tryptophan, both of which are shown to improve your mood. Betaine is a chemical that occurs naturally in the body, but is also found potently in beets, spinach, seafood, and wine.

Do you need to peel beets? ›

Sometimes beets are peeled before cooking. They may also be scrubbed and cooked until tender with their skins on; the skins slip off fairly easily after cooling. (Some people are happy to leave the skins on; they are fine to eat.) You can also pickle cooked beets.

What is the healthiest way to eat red beets? ›

Eating beets raw or juicing and roasting them may be more beneficial than boiling them. Beetroots, commonly known as beets, are a vibrant and versatile type of vegetable. They're known for their earthy flavor and aroma. Many people call them a superfood because of their rich nutritional profile.

How to eat beets yummy? ›

You can use cooked beets in salads, to make hummus or to blend into smoothies. They can be diced for slaw, quartered for a grain bowl or mashed to make a dip or spread. Their thick and chewy texture is even great in a galette or quesadilla.

What happens to your body when you eat beets everyday? ›

Risks of Beets

While it may seem like a good idea to have beets daily because of their benefits, you may need to exercise caution when eating them. Eating beets or drinking beet juice may lead to kidney stones, a potential food allergy, or stool or urine color changes.

Why do I feel so good after eating beets? ›

Beets contain betaine, a substance that relaxes the mind and is used in other forms to treat depression. It also contains trytophan (also found in chocolate), which contributes to a sense of well being — and eating the beets will make you feel less guilty than eating the chocolate!

What makes you crave beets? ›

One possibility for craving beets is a deficiency in certain nutrients found in this root vegetable. For example, if you are low in iron, your body may send signals to your brain in the form of a craving for beets or other iron-rich foods.

What drink pairs well with beets? ›

The sweet, earthy taste of a beet is the perfect complement to warming spirits like bourbon and Scotch, but takes on a more fresh, vegetal character when paired with gin. Plus, thanks to their naturally blood-red color, beet co*cktails are a sophisticated answer to the Halloween drink conundrum.

What meat goes with beets for dinner? ›

When making oven-roasted beets, give them a good scrub with a brush, then go ahead and roast them whole—the skins will magically slip right off when they're done. Then cut them into quarters, dress them with a little olive oil and salt, and you have a side that pairs well with pork, chicken, or steak.

What flavor compliments beets? ›

Lemon: The acidity of lemon juice helps to balance the sweetness of beetroot and enhances its flavour. Walnuts: The crunchy texture and nutty flavour of walnuts complement the earthy taste of beetroot. Feta cheese: The tangy and salty flavour of feta cheese pairs well with the sweetness of beetroot.

How to make beets taste good? ›

The roasted beets are wonderful on their own, seasoned simply with salt and pepper, or dressed up more with citrus juice, herbs, or balsamic vinegar. Serve them with any weeknight dinner, or add them to a holiday meal. These oven roasted beets keep well for days in the fridge, so they're great for making ahead.

What is the healthiest way to cook beets? ›

Steaming in the oven rather than baking helps preserve more of the healthy vitamins and minerals in beets. This method also helps beets better retain their beautiful, vibrant color.

Can dogs have beets? ›

Yes! Beets are safe for your dog to eat in moderation and are a healthy source of vitamin C, fiber, folate, manganese, and potassium. These vitamins and minerals are good for your dog's digestion and immune system as well as a healthy skin and coat.

How are beets usually served? ›

Both the beetroot and greens can be eaten raw. Trimmed, washed, and peeled raw beets are often used in salads, slaws, and Russian borscht (a traditional cold beet soup). Washed and chopped beet greens can be used in salads or pureed for smoothies.

How do I make beets taste better? ›

Slow-roasting beets in a foil packet or covered baking dish takes away much of the earthy taste and intensifies the flavor, but you will still have a bit of bleeding and nutrient loss.

Are beets better for you raw or cooked? ›

Cooking beets won't give you the same health benefits because heat destroys betalain pigments and hampers nitrates, but it's still good for your health. To preserve the maximum health benefits, grate raw beets into salads or steam/roast beets just long enough to tenderize them.

What is the healthiest way to buy beets? ›

Selecting Beets

There are two ways to buy fresh beets: in bunches, with the greens still attached, and in bulk, with the greens already trimmed away. And the ones with the greens attached are always preferable.
